Windows Media
How to link to Windows Media
Windows media files are not accessed directly. Instead they are accessed by a file that redirects you to the location of the streaming media (your webstreaming account directory). This is a simple text file with the ASX, WVX or WAX file extension. Please note that if webstreaming.com is encoding your souce material, they will create and host these files for you. You can download a simple ASX file from here. You will need to edit the file in a simple text editing program such as notepad to add your username and the filename.

<asx version = "3.0">
   <entry>
    <ref href = "mms://wm.webstreaminghost.com/username/welcome.asf"/>
  </entry>
</asx>

These ‘control’ files can contain information relating to the media file, such as the author and copyright information; it can also contain information relating to subtitles or associated graphics and even what media file to play next! For more information on ASX files see: Microsoft Asx Overview. Next upload this file to your website (not your webstreaming account) and create a hyperlink to the file from a webpage.
You can now test your media clip by accessing your website via a browser and clicking on the link that you have created. Your Windows Media Player should launch automatically and start streaming.

Note: You may find that the ASX file isn’t needed for Internet Explorer users. We recommend that you do this because it is needed for other Browser users.
